Security Management Consultancy
Risk analysis and risk assessment
Risk analysis is an on-site service, evaluating risks to established personnel or installations. No family, company or site have the same requirements. Therefore Bureau KS provides with tailor-made recommendations. Closely cooperation with management or family is needed to examine the identified risks to which the client may be exposed, and grades them according to probability and the damage which might be caused. Avoiding incidents from occurring is less disruptive than reacting after the event.
Protection of executives, expatriates and their families
Based on the outcome of the risk assessment, practical security advice and education can be given to executives, expatriates and their families to enable them to live safely in foreign countries or in their homeland. Tailor- made Family Security Briefings are part of this service, followed or preceded by written suggestions for improvement of daily security related behavioural conduct, as well as “lessons learnt” from survivors of serious violent incidents. These readers are instruments for an aware, secure mind. As part of the process, this service ends with a discussion concerning a possible need for development and implementation of pro active contingency plans for companies, organisations and families suddenly falling victim to such serious incident or crisis.
Protection of physical assets, information and human capital
Bureau KS helps secure clients’ physical assets and (classified) information and reviews or audits existing security arrangements to ensure that efficient and effective measures are being taken, accordingly to the outcome of the risk analysis and assessment. For new constructions of reconstructions, security engineers work closely with architects to draw cost effective solutions, integrated in the overall design. To implement the security management functions of mainly physical, electronic and mechanical installations, Bureau KS assists clients to complete the security management organisation by means of the development of a coherent set of guidelines, rules and instructions (a security manual).
To combat the threat of (industrial) espionage and fraud, Bureau KS helps clients to identify specialists carrying out information, communication and computer data security audits, including technical inspections, so called “electronic sweeps”.
Human capital
Human beings are the weakest and most vulnerable links for multinationals, governments and other organisations. The answer on the question: Have you selected a high flyer or a liar?
A balanced pre employment screening system might be the proper pro active measure to prevent undesired perpetrators and to avoid a deception.
Bureau KS experiences developing such systems, related to graded sensitive functions. Besides that, Bureau KS develops and chairs workshops, seminars and meetings enabling senior management to communicate and discuss norms and values as well as ethical codes of conduct with staff and employees.
On the one side to make directors and staff aware of the existence and the meaning of such ethical and managerial instruments an on the other side to keep the high flyers on board of the company/organisation.
Contingency Planning – Extortion related incidents
If the outcome of the risk analyses and assessment rates the vulnerability for families, organisations or companies for extortion related incidents, a contingency plan might contribute to the preparedness of the client. Extortion can take many forms. Kidnap or an in house armed and violent robbery, when a ransom is demanded for the release of a hostage is the most dramatic form.
Less dramatic but still potentially dangerous is a threat to bomb a company’s assets or to target an employee or his family if a ransom demand is not met. Just as extortion comes indifferent forms, there is no single, clear-cut response. An ill-considered response at the outset could lead at best to the payment of unnecessary sums of money and at worst to the death of a hostage or employee’s dependent.
With careful advance preparation and training, the hazardous pitfalls of the initial handling of an extortion can be avoided or managed retaining the initiative in handling crises/ incidents.
Bureau KS provides a crisis/incident management formula, encompassing contingency planning and training at all appropriate levels. Such a Crisis Management Plan or Family Incident Management Plan consists of written guidelines, procedures, description of the critical decisions, as well as the roles and responsibilities of the project Crisis/Incident Management Team. The project Crisis/Incident Management Team can be trained periodically by table top discussion or semi-live play exercises, in which realistic incidents - a kidnap for ransom, a (product)extortion, a bomb threat or an evacuation — are simulated.
